INTRODUCTION TO INTERPRETATION

Course Objectives

1) To introduce students to the basic principles and skills of interpretation and sight translation;

2) to furnish students with pertinent practical information about the interpretation profession;

3) to have hands-on practice of major interpretation techniques.

 

Assignments 

All assigned homework must be handed in on time.

1) Readings will be assigned to expose students to the theoretical background and principles of interpreting. You are expected to be able to discuss the content of each reading during class. Each assigned reading should be read by the due date.

      Pop Quizzes may be given from time to time on the contents of the assigned readings. No make-up quiz will be allowed unless the teacher has been notified ahead of class of an absence, or in cases of extreme illness.

2) A weekly journal will be kept by each student in which to comment and give thoughts on the readings and on what was discussed or taught in class.  The journal will be collected once a month.

 

Grades

Grades will be given based on the following:

 

   Participatory grade:                                    30%

(class participation, homework, exercises)

 

   Journal                                                         30%

 

   Performance grade                                      40%

(performance, use of techniques, skills acquired, exams)
